The Landlord’s Fury for Art

I once read about an ancient nomad tribe vagabonding the Earth, hunting and gathering and having no concept or even a simple word for a domestic residence we call home. Every piece of land was temporary and arose no feeling of belonging. The tribesmen were literally homeless yet they owned the whole land. Then, there were the cavemen: primitive people; the first settlers in dark and damp corners of the world. The first settlements were nature’s present and sheltered many. But, there was something missing in those caves; something that would transform simple dwellings to places with a soul…

Nope… it was not furniture or a huge, flat screen TV.

When people feel safe and hunger is not an issue anymore, they tend to create… from rumors to music and art.

Art in the form of cave paintings, like hunting scenes was perfect as it not only brought a soul to their living quarters, it also gave people a chance to brag about and immortalize their favorite memories for ages to come. In a way, art made us who we are today. Since we are safe and not starving anymore, why don’t we keep doing what our ancestors did. Hanging landscape paintings with frames is never the same as it has limitations. Plus banging nails into your walls ruins your house. Just let your imagination run wild and free. Use the wall and paint freely…it is your house as long as you live in it.

But, today’s society led by the kinds of my landlord have ridiculous objections as why we can’t live the way we like. “The society does not approve that” they say. I highly doubt the society approves anything that is creative, fun and free…

An Essay on Carrots, Toothbrushes and Eternity…

The main ideas of this short piece of writing are “being forced to do nothing” and “doing things that produce nothing” (We’ll talk about carrots and etc. a tad later)

Imagine a job in which the occupants (employees)are paid for things they don’t do. You arrive early in the morning, prepare your coffee and sit behind your desk, stretching your fingers… getting ready to play finger tap dance on your desk. You turn on your computer and stare at the blank screen. Muscle memory is a weird thing… Perhaps it’s the buzzing sound of the motherboard fan that calms you down. Your coffee gets cold due to inattention. You brew another one nevertheless. You check the huge clock on the wall. You hear the ticking sound but the hands seem paralyzed, moving maybe an inch once in every hour. Then, comes the lunch break, you quickly rush to the hot dog stand in the corner and get your usual frankfurter. You hurry up the steps into your office and check the time once again . There’s still an hour for the lunch break to end, but you find yourself sitting in your chair, munching on your sandwich. Perhaps, it’s the only different thing you do in your office all day and that’s why you want to spend some quality time there. The lunch break ends and you hear a soft knock on the door. It’s the boss’ secretary. She is holding a huge jar of peas. The boss wants you to count the peas in the jar, categorize them according to their size and color… and recount them. You have stopped complaining about the uselessness of these types of errands long ago. You can easily guess the answer you’re going to have: “Peas are different from carrots and that’s why they have to be categorized and counted.” The response you get, will make no sense as you’re not even in the food industry. Correction! It won’t make sense even if you’re in the food business. You count half of them and record your findings on a sheet of paper, add some more numbers to each total as if you have counted them all. A weird smirk of accomplishment settles onto your face. You return the jar back to the secretary, who tells you that a colleague of yours will double check it. You smile as you know he will agree with you in the end. He always does.

Now… about the title. When you are stuck between a paradox of having to do nothing and working like mad on something useless, your mind becomes creative. You start thinking like a philosopher, questioning life in every way you can and when you’ve run out of ideas that are logical, you pick on totally different concepts and think over them, making meaningless connections in search for the meaning of life.

So, carrots, toothbrushes and eternity… I challenge you to find connections and answer an eternal question. “What is life?”

I have….

Hint: Toothbrushes are used for cleaning teeth…

Madness: The chaotic order of life

We’re trapped in something we call life, going in routine circles and expecting a hefty change in every lap. We play our parts over and over again and the only change is the uprise of the evergrowing unhappiness rooted in our souls. The society we made up and belong to, accepts this as what must be; being normal…ordinary… accepted although we are encouraged to be original, different and special since our infancy. But, somehow in the sake of acceptance, we try to fit in. Otherwise, we would just be labeled as insane, bonkers, crazy, eccentric… mad.

So?

Let’s be unpredictable in our thoughts and actions, making fortune tellers and soothsayers obsolete. Let’s hold hands (or not) to make life interesting and worthwhile…Let’s welcome insanity with open arms…

Aren’t the bestest things in life require a level of madness?

Love is a state of madness…

Art is an expression of insanity…

Dancing is the physical form of craziness…

Booze is temporary eccentricity…

And imagination is the reflection in all things created by mad(wo)men.

Life is too short for constant boredom. It’s never late to go bonkers and enjoy life to its greatest extent. You’ll be an outcast… for a good reason. We welcome you to our madness…

Notes on Terror…

When sitting in a quiet corner cafe, facing the only door and planning your escape becomes a daily choir, you realize you are no more an ordinary citizen. Every newcomer could be a potential death bringer whether it’s a heavily bearded man wearing a raincoat in a warm summer afternoon or a pregnant woman holding her underbelly with her crooked, skeletal fingers. Your eyes vagabond from face to face as if analyzing each soul under the masks. Empty looks greet your expressionless face. You feel you are powerless if what you are terrified of, were to happen. Relief seems like formerly a close friend, now a distant one whom you were cut off from ages ago. Then, you hear a crackling sound like thunder. You look up, hoping to see falling skies and the first drops of rain making contact with your bare skin. However, the terrible sound seems to have scared off even the whitest clouds, as there are none in the bright skies. You return to your seat with extreme uneasiness and reach out to your phone. Social media sites are up and running without a lag. It wasn’t a terrorist attack after all. Only a gas leak explosion in the heart of the city. You take a deep breath, take a sip from your coffee and silently congratulate yourself for surviving another day. Next day, you’ll be returning to your day job… whatever it is. And another ordinary day will commence for you.

Redefining Society and Living Free

blog090Do you ever feel continuing bliss (not just short bursts of limited happiness) in your life?
How long has it been since you were truly happy?
We are becoming more and more like machines that are programmed to live a boring, aimless life with certain strict rules. We can hardly do whatever makes us happy in our society like saying what we really think about people, not caring about what people really think about us, admitting that you love someone, rolling in mud in rain, sailing a toy ship in the bath tub, wailing like a banshee unexpectedly, dancing naked in the streets and even choosing what we eat (nowadays people are often not happy with the food they consume due to dietary restrictions).
Can you remember a time when you could do all of these and not judged by the society that we shaped up in the first place?
Actually, there are multiple ways, each with a major drawback:
1. When we are drunk or stoned… (but here, we are still judged by the rules of society that we created)
2. When we suffer from a severe mental disorder  (but again we can never be totally free in our actions, the best case scenario is that we will be locked in an asylum with like-minded fellows).
3. When we are so old that we frequently shit our pants (but here, there’s the problem of finding the required energy to act freely due to old age and our decaying bodies)
4. when we are in our infancy… (but here, we have a disadvantage of height and strength required to do everything we have in our minds)
The best option to live a life where we are totally free, is the last one. Moreover, we have a suitable body in our adulthood. So, why don’t we live like kids? Wouldn’t it be the perfect society for us?
And there should be only one rule:
Not to hurt others in the process in any way…
It is easy enough and I started trying to live like this a short while ago. I do feel happy. Come and join me and let’s rewrite the rules of our society and redefine total bliss in life.
What are you waiting for?

Fractions of a single soul

Fractions of a single soul

There are about 7 billion people (if not more) dominating our planet with each of them having some uniqueness although we are not all that different. Each person has the same capacity to learn regardless of gender, age or race. It’s the conditions that we’re born into that defines our inclination and motivation to reach success easily. Provide the ultimate conditions to everyone equally than we will realize that we are more than alike. We are not sisters or brothers… we are the same – the pieces of a single, shattered entity: The fragments of a single soul.

Here are some points to back up my theory:

1. Think of drops of water and an ocean. Are the drops individual or is the ocean one? or are drops just fragments of the huge ocean?

2. We are stronger when we are together or act in numbers just like bees in a colony, working for their society. There’s always a hive queen among us that we dedicate our lives to even if we are not aware; sometimes in the form of a boss, a strong love interest or a common parent. They are the brain and we are the body, working to ensure its survival.

3. We seem like individuals but in reality we are highly social beings (even bragging requires at least one more person) Perhaps we are always longing for the missing fragments we got separated from.

4. Hatred is taught to us, just as love is. So, we all start life from the same point as newborns. We take different paths as we are taught in the process.

5. We all suffer the same, but show our pain differently as if some people got more emotions while others got more endurance and immunity towards such pain maybe because we were shattered into unequal pieces.

6. Even in language, the word “everyone” is singular despite it includes every single person.

Still not convinced?

Then, put the flora and the fauna into the mix and reconsider. Perhaps, we are just one big planet and we have tinier roles in existence.

Types of Men: A basic guide for women

Types of Men: A basic guide for women

Contrary to popular belief, men aren’t easy to comprehend (yet, predictable) as there are different types of them which you can find reflections of, in the animal kingdom.

Each type has its own characteristic traits and have different expectations from women.

Let’s have a quick look:

The ox: About 35% of the male population consists of them. They are easily identifiable in society with their bulky and muscular bodies with grim expressions all over their faces. They tend to think all women are attracted to the looks of their muscles. They are the least intellectual type of all and it’s nearly impossible to strike a rational conversation with them. They are highly overprotective and tend to see women as personal properties. They want their women to be loyal and physically attractive all the time while they regard themselves not bound by the loyalty rule. Though quite primitive, the oxen are amongst the most desired by women for reasons unknown.

Favorite hobby: Watching football with their mates in a cheap bar.

The peacock: About 15% of all men fall under this category. They are stinking rich and try to impress women by using pure wealth. The rich peacock values physical beauty and often spoils their women with costly presents. For them, women are ornaments of beauty that they wear around. They are joyous as long as the beauty lasts, so it’s easy to make a rich peacock happy: stay pretty. They are also never upset about losing their partner as they think someone will eventually replace her.

Favorite hobby: Attending antiquity auctions overseas.

The raccoon: 14% of the males fit into this category. They are highly intellectual men and target women using their brains. They might seem bossy around women but in reality they want to be led by them. They are super talkative and can often turn into a talking Wikipedia if not resisted. As they are extremely self-confident, a woman must follow his advice on any subject, acknowledge how right he had been and show gratitude by thanking. That is rhe only thing that appeals to them. Otherwise, the raccoon would keep on nagging his partner until she does follow as he sees fit.

Favorite hobby: Bragging continuously about how he solved a difficult crisis using his intellect in the corporate world.

The Sloth: The laziest type of all men make about 11% of the male population. They are almost always shaggy looking without a decent, paying job. Interested and skilled in art or music, they tend to live off of their women financially. They can make their women happy as long as they are taken care of and not talked about job opportunities.

Favorite hobby: Being left alone in a basement armed with crayons or a dusty old piano.

The monkey: The playful monkey can be seen in about 8% of males. They are not that attractive physically, so they try to compensate the physical flaw by playing the clown. Their sole aim is to make their partners laugh and have the greatest times of their lives. A woman can blindly trust the monkeys and can be easily entertained by doing all the crazy stuff that they have never thought of, with them. They are the perfect partner and play mate for women.

Favorite hobby: Making women happy.

The dinosaur: Another 8% of men are dinosaurs. They are traditional and old-fashioned in every way. They are also closely bound to the unspoken rules of society 300 years ago and try to maintain such a society in an ever changing, current world. The dinosaur wants his woman to be just like him; having high values for obsolete traditions.

Favorite hobby: Telling stories about their great grandparents over and over again.

The dragon: 0% of men…They are what every woman wants as partners but sadly they don’t exist. Never have.

Favorite hobby: Existing in the dreams of women up to a certain age until they realize they don’t exist.

The remaining 9% is a cross breed between the types above.

So, what do you think? Am I right? Please comment…

Love does not need a picture…

Someone…

Show me the existence of wordless communication, where sweet looks and gentle touches do the talking…

Turn me into a bedroom mirror, so I can watch you fall into sleep every night…and wake up with every light…

Equip me with a brand new collection of a 1000 words of love to describe my never-ending feelings…

Allow me to enclose you all over in my octopus arms…

Kiss me so deeply, sucking the air in until it runs out in my lungs…

Build me someone immune to infinite cuddles…if you can’t be the one…

And, if that’s the case… then,

Rip my soul in two…so that I can be sure that someone capable of true love like me, exists in this realm…

P.S: Lol….the first letter of each line, spells out STEAK BAR! Perhaps, my true love…

Archaeology of the Present

dc9eaed152edc8d5d50af6a44e67d6ff.jpg
Imagine our current civilization ended up in flames; totally wiped out… a few remaining survivors of the human kind (possibly stripped of all advanced technological knowledge and know-how) started all over from scratch.
In a millennium, every advancement is already long forgotten and our civilization at present is regarded as an ancient one, pretty much like ancient Egypt in our era.
The new civilization follows more or less a similar path as ours to flourish. However, some things have never been invented or some ideas have never been thought of. At least, they invent the notion of archaeology; digging up the past (and trying to uncover our secrets).
Let’s do a thought experiment…
It’s the year 2116; a thousand years from now and the future archaeologists uncover the following:
palenque589446089_tp.jpg
1. The personal library of a sci-fi enthusiast, which survived a millennium in a nuclear shelter/bunker. All the books that survived are works of fiction…about intergalactic wars, time travel, aliens, etc… and after decades of hard work, they are able to crack the code of our language. What would they think? Would they regard them as works of fiction or consider them as ancient history? We seem to regard every written record of ancient civilizations as real…
2. An email message printed on a browned out paper (actually the paper browned out much later :), containing letters of the alphabet as well as characters like @,#,_,&,* and :). (From the same library mentioned above) Would they combine these symbols into our ancient language and overthink about their function?
baseballbat2
3. A dozen autographed baseball bats by some of the baseball idols of our era dug out from the ruins of a sports shop. Luckily, the UV coating on the bats preserved the signatures from smearing out through ages. What would a baseball bat suggest to a culture who has not invented the concept of sports (for entertainment)? Perhaps, a primitive weapon of war; inscribed with an ancient god’s name to channel divine power to the wielder? How about the sports shop? Would the future archaeologists be happy that they unearthed an ancient armory?
4. A huge, curvy water slide in an abandoned amusement park: An aqueduct?
alienhands002
5  A bowling ball… Let me be more specific: A size 14, shiny, purple bowling ball. Hmmm… What are the three holes for? For fingers? But why three? Would they think that ancient humans had two less fingers? Oh wait! That’s how we depict some aliens!!!
The moral of this article?
No matter what your intentions are (when you invent or create something), you will most likely to be misunderstood …

How long is time?

A second, a minute, an hour, a day, a week, a month or a year…are some of the time related vocabulary invented by us; people, trying to have a global standard in measuring time. It’s a good thing that we had the movement of the sun to base our newest concept on or else we would be timeless in a maelstrom of confusion.

But!

Is each unit of time mentioned above, really the same in length for everyone or are they subjective?

A minute feels like eternity at your first kiss …

Perhaps, we feel that way because 1 minute is 60 seconds…and 60 is more than 1… regardless of the word that follows it.

A minute can also feel much shorter than a millisecond when you’re standing by the deathbed of a loved one.

The same logic can be applied here as 1 minute can be 0.0166666667 hours which is a tiny fraction of a whole.

The moral?

No matter how long it is…a minute is never sufficient.
